Early Tasaday Tapes
This page was last updated on February 17, 2000
During some of the early contacts with the Tasaday in 1972, a tape-recorder was left running in their rock shelter to record what they were talking about after the outsiders had left. I was able to get copies of two of these tapes in 1993 and, with the help of some of the Tasaday, transcribed and translated them. They are presented here for the first time. For a discussion of their content and the problems encountered in transcribing them, see my paper: The Tasaday Tapes.

There are three main files in double column format (Tape 1, Side 1; Tape 1, Side 2; and Tape 2). The Tasaday transcriptions are given in the left column of each file, with sentence for sentence English translation given in the right columns. They are in Adobe Acrobat .pdf format. An Acrobat Reader will download to your machine when you click on one of these file names.

Many of the sentences in these tapes are linked to sound files. If you would like to listen to them, you will need to open the appropriate .htm files that are listed on the right side of this page and click on the sentence numbers.
