OrganizationAbout ILCAA

At the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa (ILCAA), we focus on research on languages and various cultural phenomena in Asia and Africa. The Institute operates under the following three principles:
In April 2010, the Institute was newly inaugurated as a Joint Usage/Research Center Institution. The renewed ILCAA has been designated as “International Research Center for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa” by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. As a Center we are committed to strengthening and widening cooperation with the research community at both the international and national level to promoting research activities.

ILCAA’s center for the accumulation, processing, and publication of information resources on Asian and African languages and cultures, the development of joint research methods using these resources, and the promotion of international academic exchange.
The purpose of this program is to build a “field science” called “field studies” that crosses various academic disciplines and to serve as a link between researchers involved in field research.
ILCAA is a university-wide organization, which was established to promote the project “Elucidation of Polarization and Symbiosis in Transcultural Situations” and is led by ILCAA.
To develop international collaborations, we have established overseas research centers in Beirut (Lebanon) and Kota Kinabalu (Malaysia).
In order to reflect the wishes of the research community more clearly in the management of the institute and to properly carry out the functions of the institute, a committee including external researchers has been established.
The latest Annual Report can be viewed here. The “Handbook” has been renewed as the “Annual Report” since fiscal year 2021.
This is a collection of “how to use” information that can be used in a variety of ways by graduate students and researchers, aspiring researchers, and overseas researchers from all over the country.
