Projects

As an international research center, ILCAA serves as the center of an academic network, connecting researchers with each other and with research in Japan and abroad. ILCAA organizes joint research projects or supports joint research projects led by researchers outside of ILCAA. ILCAA is open to the research community, both in promoting research and in sharing research results.

Pickup Project

The ILCAA All Institutional Project

Under the recent transcultural circumstances in which the movement of people, goods, and information has accelerated and the boundaries between cultures have become increasingly blurred, a new methodology for the humanities that goes beyond the paradigm of multicultural conviviality is required. This project, as a core project of the TUFS Field Science Commons, responds to this demand through integrated knowledge based on interdisciplinary collaboration, centered on the three fields of Area Studies/History, Linguistics, and Anthropology. Based on field science, we will explore the mechanisms of “trust” and “tolerance” among the peoples of Asia and Africa in particular, and envision a symbiotic society for the new era.

Core Project

Core research is a joint research axis developed by research groups voluntarily organized within the Institute as a pillar of the mid-term research strategy of the Institute as an ILCAA Joint Usage/Collaborative Research Center.

Through joint research projects, international symposia, scientific lectures, workshops, and publication of research results in our research areas, we promote the exchange and development of academic knowledge. We also actively collect research materials, maintain databases, and preserve and make language resources available to the public. Through these activities, we contribute to the development and dissemination of academic knowledge on Asian and African languages and cultures.

Joint Research Projects

The ILCAA supports joint research projects in which domestic and international researchers can participate, and research activities are conducted using the Institute’s facilities, materials, and human resources. This brings together experts in diverse fields to generate new academic knowledge through joint research.

The Institute solicits new joint research proposals each year and provides financial and material support for selected projects. Research results are shared widely with the academic community through symposia, workshops, lectures, and publications.

Joint Research Group

Joint Research Group is a new framework launched in 2019 to foster incipient research projects based on new creative ideas. Each group is led by several staff members, and the research activities are conducted in collaboration with researchers outside ILCAA.

Externally Funded Research

In order to promote various research projects focusing on Asian and African languages and cultures, the Institute actively applies for and obtains research funding from Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and research grants from private foundations. In recent years, we have also launched research projects in collaboration with private institutions, contributing to more practical applications of our research findings.
