About ILCAA

At the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa (ILCAA), we focus on research related to languages and various cultural phenomena in Asia and Africa. The Institute operates under the following three principles:

 

  1. Conducting joint research projects
  2. Processing, compiling, and sharing resources about the languages and cultures of Asia and Africa
  3. Training the next generation of researchers through joint research, workshops, and seminars

In April 2010, the Institute was newly recognized as a Joint Usage/Research Center Institution. The renewed ILCAA has been designated as “International Research Center for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa” by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. As a Center, we are committed to strengthening and widening cooperation with the research community at both the international and national levels to promote research activities.

  • Information Resources Center (IRC)

    The Information Resources Center (IRC) is ILCAA’s hub for collecting, compiling, storing, and disseminating information resources on the languages and cultures of Asia and Africa. It also promotes the development of collaborative research methods utilizing these resources and fosters international academic exchange.

  • Field Science Center (FSC)

    The purpose of this center is to develop “field science,” a new study area for interdisciplinary fieldwork, and to serve as a hub connecting researchers engaged in field research.

  • TUFS Field Science Commons (TUFiSCo)

    TUFS Field Science Commons (TUFiSCo) is a university-wide organization established to promote the project “Elucidating Polarization and Symbiosis in Transcultural Contexts,” which is led by ILCAA

  • Overseas Satellite Offices

    To develop international collaborations, we have established overseas research centers in Beirut (Lebanon) and Kota Kinabalu (Malaysia).

  • Management and Evaluation

    To ensure that the perspectives of the research community are clearly reflected in the Institute’s management and to effectively fulfill its functions, a committee that includes external researchers has been established.

  • Guide to ILCAA

    The latest Guide to ILCAA is available here. The “Handbook” has been renewed as the “Guide to ILCAA” since fiscal year 2021.

  • How to use ILCAA

    This section offers a collection of practical guidance on how to use ILCAA, which can be utilized by graduate students, researchers, aspiring researchers, and overseas researchers around the world.
