Unraveling Polarization and Symbiosis in Transcultural Situations: Building a Platform for “Sharing” and “Dialogue” of Humanities Knowledge with People from Asia and Africa.
In the recent transcultural contexts — where the movement of people, goods, and information has intensified and the boundaries between cultures increasingly overlap — there is a growing need for new humanities methodologies that move beyond the traditional paradigm of multicultural conviviality. This project, as a core project of the TUFS Field Science Commons, responds to this demand through integrated knowledge based on interdisciplinary collaboration, focusing on the three fields: Area Studies/History, Linguistics, and Anthropology. Grounded in field science, we will explore the mechanisms of “trust” and “tolerance” among communities in Asia and Africa in particular, and envision models of symbiotic society for the new era.
In addition, we are developing three other core research areas: Linguistics, Anthropology, and History/Area Studies, as described below.
