  • Research Staff

    ILCAA Research Staff embody the Institute’s aim of being an international hub for collaborative research into the languages and cultures of Asia and Africa. The Research Staff offer opportunities to organize networks of researchers across Japan and abroad through joint research projects, as well as conducting their own individual research.

  • Specially Appointed Researchers

    Specially Appointed Researchers, including Project Assistant Professors, Research Associates, and Project Research Associates, hold fixed-term paid positions for early-career researchers at the postdoctoral level. They are engaged in various activities, assisting the research staff in conducting research projects; these activities are a part of the academic training for early-career scholars at ILCAA.

  • Visiting Researchers

    ILCAA offers visiting positions that enable international researchers to spend four to six months at the Institute, conducting joint research projects in collaboration with ILCAA Research Staff and other scholars in Japan. Each year, four to six visiting researchers are hosted.

  • Research Fellows

    “Research Fellow” is a non-remunerated, fixed-term position for senior researchers to engage in collaborative research at ILCAA alongside the Research Staff.

  • Junior Research Fellows

    “Junior Research Fellow” is a non-remunerated fixed-term position for early-career researchers at the postdoctoral level. Junior Research Fellows participate in joint research activities under the guidance of the ILCAA Research Staff, as a part of the Institute's training for emerging scholars.
