Madoka Morita is a social urban historian of the early modern Ottoman Empire. She received a Ph.D. from The University of Tokyo in 2021. Her dissertation, “Neighborhoods of Ottoman Istanbul: Politics of Order and Urban Collectivity, 1703‒54” revolves around the dynamics of migrant integration, regulations on gender relations, and the (trans)formation of collective identity in the context of a religiously heterogeneous urban society. She is currently preparing her first monograph based on this study.
