Exploration into Dynamicity of Grammar (2): Multiplicity and subregularities in grammar

ID: jrp000318

Keywordgrammar; dynamicity; variability of unit; usage-based; distributedness

This research builds upon the direction of “Exploring the Dynamic Systemicity of Grammar (1) — Grammatical Multiplicity and Dispersion —” (2017-2019), shedding light on the multifaceted nature of grammar that fluctuates and disperses according to its usage environment. Specifically, it investigates concepts such as words and sentences, challenging the fundamental question: Why do linguistic “units” (words, sentences, etc.) feel distinct in one context yet ambiguous in another? By elucidating how unit-like entities emerge and fluctuate dynamically within the interaction between speaker motivation and usage context, the project aims to lay the foundation for a new view of grammar that conceives language as a dynamic activity.
