ID: jrp000315

Keywordminority languages; revitalization; picture book; kamishibai; storytelling techniques

Community contribution and support for language revitalization are integral to language documentation, especially regarding minority languages. In line with these goals, materials such as picture books and "kamishibai" (paper theater) have been developed both in Japan and abroad. Notably, active engagement in such creative endeavors is a distinct characteristic of Japanese linguists, in contrast to trends often observed overseas. This project brings together researchers and creators involved in these activities to share insights and explore strategies for more effective language revitalization.
