KeywordLinguistic Resources; AI-assisted Language Analysis; Minority Languages / Cross-linguistic Analysis

Recent advances in AI technology have made it possible to utilize diverse forms of data in new ways. Linguistic data accumulated by ILCAA through decades of fieldwork offer new opportunities for organization and analysis through AI-based approaches. This project examines how AI can be applied to organize and structure these linguistic resources and develop cross-linguistic analytical methods, aiming to explore new directions for their use in linguistic and theoretical research. Specifically, the project will undertake the following tasks:

(1) Applying AI to textual data from dictionaries and grammars of minority languages to examine automatic organization of lexical entries and grammatical descriptions.
(2) Exploring methods for comparing lexical and grammatical descriptions across languages and sources to visualize similarities and differences.
(3) Supporting extraction and classification of meanings, usage patterns, and syntactic patterns from example sentences in publications.
