Photos taken by ILCAA staff and associates are posted here once a month; most of them are taken during their field research in Asia and Africa.

Since July in rainy season, the basins of large rivers in the regions such as Magwe, Mandalay, Bago, Sagaing and Ayayarwaddy in Myanmar have been ravaged by severe floods.

This is a photo of U Pein Bridge in Amarapura, believed as the longest wooden bridge in the world. In dry season, the bridge columns from the near-side foot till the big tree over there are on the land. The bridge beams are only 1 meter above the surface in the photo, though 4 to 5 meters above the surface in dry season.

Inhabitants of submerged houses are now living in provisional huts along or on the median of the unsubmerged roads. Cattle and fowls also have to live together with them. A Burmese friend of mine accompanying our survey was worried that it might cause infection disease.
