In Taiwan, as awareness of animal protection has increased, animals used as offerings in ritual sacrifices are sometimes made of bread, rice, or noodles.
While the practice of offering real pigs also continues in some communities, there is ongoing debate among the public over the appropriate forms of ritual sacrifice.
