Held alongside “Painting Together: Apprenticeship and Art Anthropology in a Sign-Painting Workshop in Kumasi, Ghana,” this event explores creative practice and social engagement through music and religion. Part One introduces musician Wanlov the Kubolor’s music and video installation, followed by a music-making workshop with rapper, DJ and music anthropologist Yanohara. With Yanohara as interviewer, Wanlov discusses his environmental and human rights activism, production work with traditional musicians, and film music. (Language: English) Part Two features Sena Voncujovi, born in Japan and raised in Ghana. A priest (Bokor) of Ewe-Vodu, a traditional religion in Ghana, he explores religious transmission and contemporary society through his work across borders, including rituals, filmmaking, activities in North America and the return of sacred objects. Multimodal anthropologist Ran Muratsu, who studies religion and film, offers commentary. (Language: Japanese)
