“Mā Lipi” is a form of calligraphic art created by Dr. Niranjan Bandyopadhyay. It renders the Brahmi script—considered the common ancestor of South and Southeast Asian writing systems and famous for the Edicts of Ashoka—using the techniques and brushwork of Japanese calligraphy. In addition to a lecture and exhibition on "Mā Lipi," this seminar will feature research presentations by scholars including Prof. Manosh Chowdhury and Dr. Naba Gopal Roy regarding the Japan-Bengal artistic exchange centered on Shantiniketan, as well as performances of Tagore’s dances and songs by Ms. Koli Bandyopadhyay. Chairs: Togawa Masahiko (ILCAA) & Sudipta Das (Nippon-Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University)
