A month has passed since the U.S. and Israel launched attacks against Iran. Contrary to the initial expectations of the Trump administration for a quick resolution, missile exchanges have continued and have caused damage to U.S. military and industrial facilities in oil-producing Arab Gulf states and Iraq. As navigation through the Strait of Hormuz has become difficult, the repercussions are affecting the global economy. Iraq has declared its support for Iran, while Israel has intensified its attacks on southern Lebanon. A proposed ceasefire is unlikely to gain trust. The ongoing clashes in the Persian Gulf and Israel’s expanding regional dominance are rapidly transforming the Middle East’s long-standing “cold coexistence” into “hot war.” What impact might this conflict have on intra-regional relations in the Middle East? How will it affect the future military presence of the US in this region? What measures can be implemented to restore security and stability?
