The Tay in Dehong celebrate the Chinese New Year, and they often paste rhymed couplets written in Tay script beside their front doors. In these verses they express their expectations for prosperity. The first line (right) reads; “Commodities become abundant, piling up as high as mountains”, and the second line (left) “Money and silver flow in like water from myriad rivers”.
