The ILCAA All Institutional Project

Unraveling Polarization and Symbiosis in Transcultural Situations: Building a Platform for “Sharing” and “Dialogue” of Humanities Knowledge with People from Asia and Africa.

Under the recent transcultural circumstances in which the movement of people, goods, and information has accelerated and the boundaries between cultures have become increasingly blurred, a new methodology for the humanities that goes beyond the paradigm of multicultural conviviality is required. This project, as a core project of the TUFS Field Science Commons, responds to this demand through integrated knowledge based on interdisciplinary collaboration, centered on the three fields of Area Studies/History, Linguistics, and Anthropology. Based on field science, we will explore the mechanisms of “trust” and “tolerance” among the peoples of Asia and Africa in particular, and envision a symbiotic society for the new era.

In addition, we are developing three other core research areas: Linguistics, Anthropology, and History/Area Studies, as described below.

Linguistics
Describing and documenting language dynamics in Asia and Africa: Toward a deeper understanding of the languages and cultures of people living in Asia and Africa
Anthropology
Anthropological Explorations into Sociality: Transcultural Situations and Mechanisms of Tolerance/Intolerance
