ILCAA offers educational training and various types of opportunities that are not possible in typical graduate school curriculum; this is to ensure the continuation of academic tradition with the future generations of researchers.
The training activities at ILCAA can be grouped into the following three categories:
The Institute offers training and seminars on specific themes or research areas in Asia and Africa, including Intensive Language Courses.
ILCAA’s research staff participate in teaching graduate courses of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies; graduate students can choose one of them as their supervisor and the chief examiner of their doctoral thesis. ILCAA also offers various opportunities for postdoctoral researchers.
Through the development of academic networks and scholarly communities, ILCAA serves as a key hub for connecting junior scholars based in Japan—linking them both to ILCAA and to one another—who specialize in the languages, cultures, and history of Asia and Africa and who are affiliated with institutions nationwide.
