Research interests: Art Education, Asian Culture and Art

Researching “ What is Arts? ” through drawing pictures and art education

I draw plants with the Japanese ink and the mud pigment on the Japanese paper. My keyword in drawing is the Japanese view of nature. Japanese in the Jomon period recognized nature as “ having spirits ” and “ giving birth to the spirit ”. And I think the recognition is necessary also in today’s society. So I draw plants with that materials, the Japanese ink is plant soot and the mud pigment is made from plants decayed. But as described in Nihon Shoki, the Japanese ink and paper were introduced from Asia. Japanese culture has been influenced by Asian culture. So I am learning Asian culture to understand Japanese culture.

Recent Interests:

I have been teaching visual arts at the university and the high school for two years. And I saw the photograph of the mask in the textbook. It was signal for researching masks. The content of the research is to compare the Japanese Noh mask with the expressive mask of another country and view the mask as a personality. I want to understand Asian culture and art deeply and convey the interest to the students and others.
