About the Project
Project term: April, 2025–March, 2028
This project covers all language families in Asia, Africa, and Europe. Focusing on approximately six types of linguistic features – including lexicon, phonology, lexical categorization,
and grammar – it aims to create interpretative maps that visualize the geographical distribution of these features and to elucidate the formation process of distribution through diachronic analyses and typological discussions.
We also take into account extralinguistic factors, namely, migrations and interactions of human groups underlying language contact, and we invite specialists in relevant academic fields as needed.
This project seeks to clarify the dynamics reflected in the languages from both micro- and macro-level perspectives.
