About the Project

Project term: April, 2024–March, 2027

This project’s objective is to deepen the understanding of Tibetan pastoralism in the agro-pastoral complex. It will conduct fieldwork and documentary research on the natural environment, livelihoods, pastoral techniques, agricultural techniques, and food cultures of the middle highlands on the south side of the Himalayas, where the pastoral zone of the highlands and the agricultural zone of the lowlands intersect, to compare them with the cultural features of adjacent non-Tibetan lowland agriculture. We will add the words on pastoralism obtained in the target area to the archive created by the members of the project in order to formulate an archive that takes into account regional diversity.
