Kachin lady bearing a basket on her back

It is a snapshot of a traditional Manau festival held by Lacid people constituting an ethno-cultural group called “Kachin”. (To know about Manau festival, click HERE.) A young lady in formal dress is carrying a basket with tumpline containing foods on her back. The foods such as cooked rice and meats are wrapped with leaves and eaten by the participants of the festival after performing Manau dance.

Lacid formal blouses are black and ornamented with embroidery, silver medallions and tassels like those of other Kachins such as Jingpho, Zaiwa and Lhaovo. Meanwhile, Lacid women wear formally black longyis decorated with colorful geometric pattern in the lower part like Lhaovo, and unlike Jingpho and Zaiwa who wear red longyis. The ornament cloth she put on the left side of her waist is unique to Lacid dress.
