Leaders of Manau Dance

In last November, Lacid people constituting an ethno-cultural group called "Kachin" held a harvest festival in Myitkyina, the capital of Kachin State, to eat first crop together and perform traditional Manau dance thanking God for a good harvest. When Kachin people perform Manau, they clear a circular space enclosing by bamboo fence, and elect in the center several rectangular columns patterned with the design symbolizing the worldview of Kachin. Men with swords and women with fans in traditional costumes dance around the center columns, forming in two lines. The men leading the line of Manau wear miters decorated with peacock feathers, as in the photo.
