Research interests: African Linguistics

Being part of an international network

It was 1982 when I gave a presentation at the International Symposium on Languages and History of the Nilotic People, Cologne, University of Cologne, which Prof. Dr. Bernd Heine organized. I was a graduate student of Kyoto University. This was the first international conference in which I participated. After my miserable presentation, Bernd encouraged me and advised me that I should continue to study Nilotic languages using the methods that I had adopted back then. I continued to study and discovered some linguistic phenomena in Nilotic languages. I subsequently participated in various international conferences regularly.

I invited Bernd as well as Prof. Dr. Rainer Vossen to our Institute. Rainer was one of the organizers at the smposium in Cologne. I also invited Prof. Dr. Christa Koenig to our Institute. I am happy to study under the guidance of various leading scholars.

Recent interests: Description of Nilotic languages that are spoken in Uganda. Publishing grammars and dictionaries of them. Historical studies of western Nilotic languages including Kumam which I studied from 2000.
