The Mausoleum of Shāh Ālī Bāgdādī in Dhaka, Bangladesh

Away from the hustle and bustle of Bangladesh’s capital city, Dhaka, the precinct of the mausoleum of Shāh Ālī Bāgdādī (Hazarat Shāh Ālī Bāgdādī Majār) is peaceful and calm. The mausoleum dates back to the 15th century and is situated in the Mirpur No. 1 Ward in the northern part of Dhaka. It is a sacred centre for pilgrims, wondering ascetics and folk singers, and always has visitors. The boy with his younger brother in the picture offered prayers at the altar for a long time. There is concern regarding the influence of globalizing extremism on Bangladesh; however, the time of quiet prayer sans the downtown crowds remains unchanged in the everyday landscape since the olden days.
