Kachin-style set menu

This is a picture of an ordinary Kachin-style set menu.

Cooked rice and dishes are wrapped with water-lilly or banana leaves. We can get them to go, or eat them in store unwrapping them on the table. The leaves are washed and reused, and worn out leaves are thrown away. They are obviously environment-friendly compared with plastic bags.

The main dish on the right is chicken. Cutted chicken is seasoned with ginger, garlic, salt and pepper, then mixed up with onion, red chili and herbs such as basil, fried with a small amount of oil, and cooked with water until no water remains. This is one of the major recipes of Kachin. The side dish is vegetables and herbs minced and boiled lightly in stock. The soup is made of bone stock with fermented bamboo shoots and fermented soybeans, and seasoned with salt.

The meal suits my palate well. The price is 1000 kyats (=0.8USD), about half of those of Burmese and Indian set menus. Above all, the menu is served quickly, without requiring time for dishing up except for soup. Especially it is helpful when we have only a short lunch break.
