Snowman in Jordan

People suppose the Middle East countries don’t get snow. However, there are regions at high altitude where it snows from time to time. Jordan, where I lived for overseas research, Lebanon, Syria and Palestine/Israel are the regions which get snow. When it really snowed within a month from my arrival to Jordan, I myself was very much surprised. The stairs at the door was buried by the heavy snow, classes of the university were canceled, and most of the functions of the city stopped working.

Fun with snow seemed to be a universal matter. It can be even more special feeling for the area where it rarely snows. When I walked out of my house to see my first snow in the Middle East, I met students from the Gulf countries. We were all excited and played snowball fight together. There were several snowmen already made on our way to get to the main street in front of the University of Jordan.
