The end of the rainy season

During three months of the Buddhist Lent in the rainy season, monks stay at temples and concentrate on the study and practice of Buddhism, refraining from going outside. This picture shows lay Buddhists who are waiting for monks coming to do special begging called “Takbat Thewo” at Chiang Mai University in the morning after the Buddhist Lent. There is a temple named “Wat Fai Hin” which is situated at the foot of Mt. Doi Suthep and next to Chiang Mai University. A lot of people with some goods for offering such as flowers, incense, and foods have gathered on the street between the temple and the clock tower on the campus from early morning.

Around the time when the Buddhist Lent ends, the rainy season comes to an end. In Northern Thai villages, it becomes the time to harvest golden rice.
