Lake view from the Fairy’s Abode

In the seventeenth century, Mughal emperors and princes who loved Kashmir built a number of gardens and villas around the valley. Among them is the Pari Mahal or Fairy’s Abode at the east side of Dal lake in Srinagar, which was built by prince Dara Shukoh (d. 1659), the eldest son of Shah Jahan, as Dara’s observatory and library.
