The hill in the center is Bala Hisar; below it the city of Kabul extends to the right; the white buildings to the left are British cantonments. This garrison was visited by the wives and children of officers as a summer resort and various forms of entertainment were provided there. In terms of defense, it was vulnerable and was isolated and besieged during the great revolt.
