PROJECT: Database of Islamic Sacred Scriptures
LEADER: IIZUKA Masato

overview As a part of ``Corpora of Asian Scripts'',we collect and present the information about the databases and digital texts of Islamic sacred scriptures all over the world.
objective Islam has only two kinds of sacred scriptures: al-Qur'an (the Coran), which is believed to be the speech of God, and the prophetic Hadiths (collections of the sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad). Till now various databases of those sacred scriptures have been built, especially in the Arab world and Islamic Republic of Iran, with 29 Arabic letters. This project aims at collecting them and presenting the URLs of those databases as many as possible.
content
This project started in May 2002. Since then we have collected the useful informations of those databases through our field survey and net-surf. At present, we regard the following databases and search-engines very useful.
Harf Information Technology This Egytian company offers one of the best collection of Hadiths with "search" function. It contains more than sixty-two thousand Hadiths from the Nine Books of Hadith: two "Sahih"s and four authoritative "Sunan"s of the Sunnite, "Musnad" of Ahmad ibn Hanbal, "Muwatta'" of Malik ibn Anas and "Sunan" of Al-Darimi. You can access any Sunnite Hadith by searching for a word contained therein, any of its phrases, any of its narrators, or by identifying any of the topics it covers and so on.
al-Muhaddith Official website of Dar al-Hadith Cultural Institute, Damascus. You can download a lot of databases related to al-Qur'an and the Sunnite Hadiths free of charge, such as the Tafsir written by al-Suyuti, "Sahih"s of al-Bukhari and Muslim, "Sunan" of al-Tirmidhi, "Musnad" of Ahmad, "Jami' saghir" of al-Suyuti, and "Fath al-bari" of Ibn Hajar al-'Asqalani.
MSA-USC Hadith Database An English database offered by South California University. You can access any Sunnite Hadith of two "Sahih"s, "Sunan" of Abu Dawud and "Muwatta'" of Malik by searching for an English word corresponding to the Arabic original.
