ABABDEH RIDING THEIR DROMEDARIES

What distinguishes the ʻAbābda(Ababdeh) riding their dromedaries are the large straight broad-swords that they lay at their sides, like spears. These swords were doubtlessly longer than one meter, and unlike daggers, they could not be worn at the waist when riding a dromedary. The head rider, accompanied by a dog, carries a round shield covered with a rhinoceros or crocodile skin. He holds a kurbāj (whip of hippopotamus or rhinoceros skin) for controlling his dromedary. There is a sheepskin water bag at the flank of the second dromedary.
