[Lithograph 12] FELLAH, DRESSED IN THE HABA

Although Islamized and became a part of the Arabic-speaking Arab people, the Egyptian peasants, or fallāḥ(fellah), have been regarded as descendants of the ancient Egyptians who gave us colossal structures such as the pyramids. In this lithograph, the fallāḥ youth wears an ʻabāʼa(haba) wool overcoat over a blue galabia, and even wears slippers. He appears to be from a more or less wealthy class. In the background can be seen a mosque and a Muslim cemetery to the right.
