GHAWAZI, OR DANCING GIRLS.  ROSETTA
展示品
Ghwāzī(Ghawazi)s' dancing to the beat of a tambourine was one of the few sources of popular amusement in Egypt. These girls danced even in the public streets of Egypt, until banned by the government in October 1834. The dancing girls' costumes were often made of silk, and as the movements of the dance became more animated and rapid the shawls they tie loosely about their loins would be cast aside. They play castanets with their fingers and wear gold coins interwoven with their plaits.
