Ghiljye Women, Of the lower orders

Exhibtat Pieces
This picture is a portrait of the women of the Ghilji (Ghilzay) , another one of the largest tribal groups of the Pashtun people. Unmarried women are said to have tied all of their hair in front of their faces and decorated it with beads, pieces of metal, or colored glass. Once married, they were permitted to wear their hair untied.
