Shah Shuja‘ was a king of the Durrani dynasty, who was reinstated in 1839 with the assistance of the British army and assassinated in 1842. The scene shows Shah holding an audience with officials in his audience hall; the outline of his subjects can be seen beyond the pillars on the left. The octagonal throne was made of marble.
