A raven was skating, on a river under a cliff. The place he was skating was not quite frozen. A wolf came over, and said to the raven. "Hey, let me skate with you." The raven said. "Oh no. You would drown. Even I fly away when I get to the unfrozen part." "Hey, I want to skate, too. I got feet, too. See? I can jump." The wolf then jumped, but he fell in. The wolf cried out to the raven. "Mister, please help me out. If you help me, I'll give you a herd of white reindeer." "No, I already have a herd of white reindeer myself." "Oh brother, help me. I'll give you a herd of black reindeer." "I have that, too." "Sir, please pull me out of here. I'll kill a fat wild reindeer and you can eat the meat of its haunch." The raven said, "Why didn't you say so in the first place?" The raven pulled the wolf out of the water. Soon the wolf caught a running wild reindeer and killed it. Then the wolf ate the haunch. The raven flew over and said. "Hey, you ate the haunch!?" The wolf said. "Sir, you can eat the neck with your sharp beak." |
