*** preparation **************************************** Open the display-cover. Connect ADAPTOR with PC-98. Fit the plug of ADAPTOR into socket. *** to start PC **************************************** To start, press POWER button once, and you will hear some sound. Wait for 30seconds or so, and MS-DOS prompt "A:>" will be on the screen. You can use DIC or DICX -SEARCH program. Both of them include Bargery's dictionary. Here we will explain how to use the DIC(DIC-SEARCH) program. *** using DIC ***************************** Type DIC after A>:(like "A>:DIC"). Main menu of "DICSEARCH" will come. Type "1", and touch RETURN key. You will see [BARGERY>:]. This is the word search prompt for electronic Bargery's Dictionary. --- word search ----------------------------- After [BARGERY>:] prompt, type a Hausa word you wish to find, and touch RETURN key. For example type almajiri and touch RETURN key! e.g. BARGERY>: almajiri --- scrolling control "f-1" key----------------------- In case of searching for almajiri, its content is relatively short. So it's no problem. But type gida and touch RETURN key! You can't read! The content is so long, the screen is scrolled too rapidly. To stop scrolling, just touch "f-1". To release, touch RETURN key again or any other alphabet key. --- wildcard search ---------------------------------- If you remember only a part of any Hausa word, you may use *(asterisk) instead of the unknown part of the word. e.g. in case of searching for a Hausa word almajiri, you remember only "almaji", you don't remember "ri". Type almaji*, and touch RETURN key, you will find alimajiri on the screen. * can be also used for the beginning part of a word you wish to find. Type *majiri and touch RETURN key, you will find almajiri on the screen. If you do not remember an alphabet or some alphabets in a word, you can use ?(question mark) in stead of the alphabet(s). One ? is for an alphabet. e.g. about almajiri, you only remember almajiri as al?a?iri, type al?a?iri and touch RETURN key. You will find almajiri on the screen. You can also use combinations of * and ? on your search. --- context search in all of the text of Bargery: very powerful function ---------- other than word search, you can search for some spelling in the content. First, limit the extent like from a to zz(= end of dictionary). To limit the search extent e.g. from a to zz, type a-zz next to [BARGERY>:], and touch RETURN key. DIC will ask you "Find What?:", then type some spelling you wish to find. e.g. type sobarodo and touch RETURN key. If you wish to find an English word, e.g. lady, type / lady / and touch RETURN key. Without //, DIC will find more than you expect. Anyway try several times. When this context search ends, the prompt would be [$ ALL]. Touch "f-2" key, and you will see all the Hausa words(items corresponding to your search) where this spelling appears. Then touch "f-6" key(list up key), and you will see the result again. 1]2]3] means items (Hausa words, or entries in Bargery) 1)2)3) means contexts. Sometimes several contexts appear in a same item. And you can also search again for some spelling in these. Next to [$ ALL>:], type some spelling you wish to find and touch RETURN key. To return to [BARGERY>:] from [$ ALL>:] or [$ X(any number)>:], just touch RETURN key. You can restart word search. --- to finish DIC ----------------------------- You see [BARGERY>:] prompt on the screen. Just touch "f-10" key, and you will come back to the main menu of "DICSEARCH". Type "4" and touch RETURN key, and you will find MS-DOS prompt "A:\KAMUS>" on the screen. *** to stop PC ***************************** Press POWER button firmly, PC will stop quietly. Close the display-cover. *** reset button ********************************* PC-98 has RESET button on the left or the right side of the body. If you happen to face any trouble (freezing or so), press RESET button. PC-98 will restart. |
