概要4 アジア・アフリカ言語文化研究所（以下、AA研）は、文部科学大臣によって言語学・文化人類学・地域研究分野の共同利用・共同研究拠点に認定された「アジア・アフリカの言語文化に関する国際的研究拠点」です。その使命を達するため、本研究所では主に以下の3つの領域において、国内外の関連研究者コミュニティによる共同利用・共同研究を推進してきました。（1）臨地研究（フィールドサイエンス）に基づく国際的研究拠点としての共同利用・共同研究（2）アジア・アフリカ諸地域の言語・文化等に関する研究資源の収集・分析・編纂および研究成果の発信（3）研究活動および研修・出版・広報等の活動を通じた次世代研究者養成 このうち、特に（1）と（3）の推進にあたっては、本研究所が設置・運営している2つの海外拠点も有効に活用し、国境を越えた現地共同研究や、国外の関連研究者の参加を得る形での次世代研究者養成を実現しています。 2017（平成29）年度には、新たに11件の共同利用・共同研究課題が発足しました。これらの研究課題は、AA研所員が、国内外で最先端の研究を行っている300名を超える研究者と緊密に連絡を取りながら展開しています。すべての研究課題は公募のうえ、所外の研究者が過半数を占める委員会による厳格な審査を経て採択されたものです。 一方、2010（平成22）年度からは、基幹研究という形で研究所の特徴を可視化しており、現在は「多言語・多文化共生に向けた循環型の言語研究体制の構築」「アジア・アフリカにおけるハザードに対する「在来知」の可能性の探究」「中東・イスラーム圏における分極化とその政治・社会・文化的背景」の3つの基幹研究が共同で「アジア・アフリカの現代的諸問題の解決に向けた新たな連携研究体制の構築」プロジェクトに取り組んでいます。3つの基幹研究は、文部科学省のCOE拠点形成・特別推進研究費や特別教育研究経費（拠点形成）を得てすでに研究所内に形成されている「アジア書字コーパス拠点」「中東イスラーム研究拠点」と並ぶAA研の顔として、公募による共同利用・共同研究課題と連携しつつ、強力かつ集中的な共同研究を進めています。 こうした実績が認められ、2013（平成25）年度末に文部科学省が公表した「ミッションの再定義」でも、本研究所のミッションは「アジア・アフリカ諸言語の正確な理解と言語多様性の記録に貢献する」とともに、「海外研究拠点を通じてイスラームやアジア・アフリカの諸問題の正確な理解に基づく解決に貢献」し、「その研究成果を国際的に発信する」こととされています。The Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa (ILCAA) has been approved as an “International Research Center for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa” by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) with the mission of serving as a joint research institution in the elds of linguistics, cultural anthropology and area studies. To full this mission, ILCAA conducts joint research in collaboration with outside scholars mainly in the following three elds:(1) Joint research as an International Research Center based on eld science.(2) The collection, analysis, and editing of research resources concerning the languages and cultures of Asia and Africa, and the dissemination of research ndings.(3) The fostering of future generation of researchers. This is done through research activities, training programs, publication and public relations.Regards (1) and (3), ILCAA utilizes its two Overseas Satellite Ofces by conducting joint research locally that transcends national boundaries and includes non-Japanese scholars as well.The academic year 2017 has seen the inauguration of eleven new joint research projects. Joint research projects are conducted in close collaboration with over 300 leading researchers from both inside and outside ILCAA. All Joint research projects are publically selected through strict screening by a committee, of which over half of the members come from outside ILCAA.In 2016 AY, ILCAA designated the following three projects as core research programs: “Linguistic Dynamics Science 3”, “The Potential Value of Indigenous Knowledge in Managing Hazards in Asia and Africa: The Anthropological Explorations into the Linkage of Micro-Macro Perspectives 2”, “Political, Social and Cultural Polarization and its Backgrounds in the Middle East and the Muslim World”. These three core research programs have become the main features of ILCAA activities along with our two COE (Centers of Excellence) academic institutions; the “Grammatological Informatics Based on Corpora of Asian Scripts (GICAS)” and the “Middle East and Islamic Studies (MEIS)”, which were funded by MEXT Grants-in-Aid for Scientic Research. They collaborate with the publically selected joint research projects, in the implementation of vigorous and intensive joint research.Our achievements have been acknowledged in the “redenition of missions” which was officially announced by MEXT at the end of 2013 AY. MEXT has clearly stipulated that the mission of ILCAA is “to contribute to the correct understanding of the languages of Asia and Africa and the documentation of linguistic diversity”, “to contribute to the solution of issues concerning Islam, Asia and Africa by a correct understanding of them through its Overseas Satellite Ofces”, and “to disseminate research ndings internationally”.AA研の研究活動Research Activities of ILCAA
