Brief History of our Linguistic Questionnaire for Asia and Africa

The Linguistic Questionnaire for Asia and Africa was made to meet linguistic requirements in investigating target languages, unfamiliar to us, spoken in Asia and Africa. The plan and project to make the Linguistic Questionnaire for Asia and Africa were first proposed and taken up in the Steering Committee of ILCAA which was held on the 28th January, 1965.
As the first outcome of the project, the Linguistic Questionnaire for Asia and Africa 1, the original Japanese title of which is 『アジア・アフリカ言語調査票 上』 , was published by ILCAA in 1966. It was of handy size and contained 1,000 entries to which Japanese, English, and French equivalents were given. The following year the enlarged edition, the Linguistic Questionnaire for Asia and Africa 2, the original Japanese title of which was 『アジア・アフリカ言語調査票 下』 , was published. It was reprinted in 1980.

The two editions of the Linguistic Questionnaire for Asia and Africa are different from one another in some respects.
