Call for Applications for Joint Researcher (conducted at ILCAA Overseas Satellite offices)
Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa (ILCAA), Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS), invites applications for joint researchers of Joint Research Projects conducted at ILCAA Overseas Satellite offices. The Joint Research Projects, conducted by the members of the institute together with outside researchers, constitute the core of research activities at ILCAA as the International Research Center for the Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa. The Joint Research Projects are evaluated annually at a meeting by a group of referees, which includes researchers within and outside TUFS. Projects are evaluated in terms of their outputs, publicization of results, and significance from academic viewpoint.
Several Joint Research Projects are organized by outside researchers.
Some Joint Research Projects are conducted at the Overseas Satellite offices of ILCAA.

  • Projects that start in April, 2010 are the following:
    • Human Mobility and Multi-ethnic Coexistence in Middle Eastern Urban Societies
    (conducted at Japan Center for Middle Eastern Studies (JaCMES) in Beirut (Lebanon).)

  • Application
    • Each applicant should submit the following application forms for the joint researcher via e-mail to ilcaajr[at]aa.tufs.ac.jp (Please change [at] to @). The deadline for submission is October 30th, 2009. After review, selected applications will be announced by the end of December, 2009.

  • Eligibility to apply
    • - A person who has been employed at a research institution based on an employment contract; or,
    - A person who has equivalent ability for research.

  • Privileges
    • - The travel expenses are provided for the members of the project to attend the project meetings, held about two times a year.
    - Members can access the books/documents and the equipments at ILCAA.

  • Obligation
    • Members must contribute to the resultant output of the research project. Also, when results of a project are published as papers (e.g., in journals), the researchers should state that the research was conducted at ILCAA. For example, the following sentence should be included in the acknowledgement: "This work is a result of “Human Mobility and Multi-ethnic Coexistence in Middle Eastern Urban Societies”, a Joint Research Project at Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa (ILCAA), Tokyo University of Foreign Studies."
