The Institute consists of a Research Project Division, comprising three research units (Linguistics, History/Area Studies, Anthropology) and two centers (Information Resources Center and Field Science Center). All Institute staff members belong to one of these units or centers, and while pursuing their individual research, they organize and conduct various joint research projects with scholars within and outside the Institute and also with those outside Japan.
